Tractor is a dynamic New York based fashion jeans wear brand. The business was started in 1997 by two entrepreneurs, Howard Mensch and Diane Kuczer. The two met while both were working for the same company, HW Carter & Sons. The company was an old work wear brand, that they repositioned into a fashion work oriented brand selling work fashion to Urban Outfitters and other fashion forward stores throughout the country.
When their tenure there was finished, they quickly realized that between them, they had all the components needed to start a fashion jeans business. Diane had a design background, and Howard had a sales, marketing and retail background. So, they did some research in abandoned trademarks, and found Tractor. They immediately re trade marked the brand, and launched Tractor Brand Jeanswear in January 1998, as a juniors and girls fashion jeans company. Specialty stores and boutiques throughout the country quickly snapped up the unique well fitted styles, and the distribution grew into Department Stores such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Von Maur, and Neiman Marcus.
In order to facilitate production and make the company more competitive in a very tough economic environment in 2008, they repositioned the company, and entered into a license agreement with New York Poplin LLC, a Chinese owned entity, which also owns factories in China. This license agreement has allowed Howard and Diane to concentrate on what they do best, design, merchandising, marketing and sales. The end result of this license which is still in place today, has created a vertical company, factory to store direct.
Today Tractor is one of the most popular and well known brands in the 4-14 girls market in the USA, with distribution in all the better department stores and specialty stores. Based on that popularity, a new Young Contemporary womens line was launched for Spring of 2012 under the new Tractr brand. The line is marketed in better specialty stores throughout the USA and Canada, and can be found on the web at www.tractrjeans.com, the new web site created for the young contemporary customer.
